Learning Outcomes
This course aims to equip students with knowledge related to well-being and quality of life in older adults, but also with health behaviors related to wellness (leisure time, diet, exercise). In addition, students come into contact with and practice skills related to intervention programs related to changing health behaviors of this population.
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:
- Identify basic introductory issues related to wellness and quality of life (conceptual demarcation, different terms, historical evidence).
- Recognize the concept of health-related quality of life and its components.
- Describe the basic dimensions of quality of life and its basic measurement tools.
- Describe the dimensions of quality of life, according to WHO, as well as WHOQOL, the WHO quality of life measurement tool.
- Identify the data on quality of life in older people living in the community and in long-term care facilities.
- Recognize the importance of functionality in chronic disease and its connection to quality of life.
- Recognize the impact of frailty syndrome on quality of life.
- Describe the determinants that contribute to quality of life.
- Identify exercise and nutrition issues in older adults.
- Organize and evaluate interventions related to the promotion of behaviors that promote health and functionality and are related to a high quality of life.
- Apply effective health behavior modification techniques to older adults with the goal of maintaining functionality and well-being.
- Identify issues related to the leisure management of older adults.
- Organize and evaluate interventions related to the promotion of behaviors related to an effective use of free time and supported in the literature to be associated with positive health outcomes (e.g. volunteering).
