Learning Outcomes
This course introduces students to the concept of ethical philosophy and the role of health professionals in dealing with key bioethical issues and challenges. In addition, students acquire skills in writing a research protocol and know the process of writing a request for approval of a research paper by bioethics committees.
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to:
- Understand the concept of ethics and ethical philosophy, the relationship of ethical philosophy and ethical theory to health care, and describe key philosophical and humanities approaches to bioethics.
- Recognize human and patient rights, describe global health inequalities and how these relate to bioethics in the context of public health.
- Understand the concept of professional ethics and the boundaries of health care
- Identify issues of autonomy and issues surrounding the therapeutic task in a geriatric population
- Recognize issues related to therapeutic practice and privacy
- Understand the connections between public health and autonomy
- Understand the importance of protecting personal data
- Describe European data protection legislation
- Explain the emergence of liability in modern medical law
- Determine the legal consequences of medical malpractice
- Describe the importance of genetics in medicine and understand the importance of protecting genetic information
- Identify challenges, limitations and issues related to the “enhancement” of the human organism, the end of life, mental illness, artificial intelligence and interculturality.
- Describe the guidelines of the international Bioethics Committee of UNESCO
- Plan to write a research paper protocol
- Write an application for approval of research work by bioethics committees
