Learning Outcomes
This course aims to equip the student with knowledge related to palliative care at the end of life, as well as skills related to the successful support of these patients.
Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
- Knows basic introductory issues and definitions related to palliative care.
- Recognizes the importance of tertiary prevention.
- Describes the main chronic conditions in older adults.
- Knows basic issues about chronic pain and its effects.
- Describes interventions to prevent complications of chronic diseases and community management.
- The importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in the context of palliative care for the elderly is recognized.
- Describes burnout factors for health professionals involved in chronic disease and palliative care, as well as to propose, organize, and implement related prevention and treatment programs.
- It recognizes the challenges of end-of-life care in terms of symptom relief, decision-making and representation, as well as the psychosocial issues that arise.
- It describes the rights, services and support groups for people at the end of life.
- Knows the practical guidelines for providing quality palliative care.
- Describes WHO guidelines for end-stage cancer patients.
- Evaluates clinical cases.
- Describes the possibilities of providing community-centered palliative care (structures, programs and services).
- It recognizes the importance of a sense of meaning and spirituality at the end of life.
Knows, organizes, recommends, implements and evaluates good practices in the provision of palliative care.
